The Bend FFA Chapter2018 Fall Newsletter With September now coming to a close, school is back in full swing, and so is the FFA. However before diving deep into all the exciting upcoming events & opportunities, we’d like to take a moment to congratulate all those who exhibited at the 2018 Deschutes County Fair & Oregon State Fair as well. Bend FFA members crushed it in market, breeding, showmanship classes with their livestock and small animal projects. We are proud to be a part of such a supportive community who helped The Deschutes County Youth Livestock Auction raised $1.3 million for Deschutes County youth! We also saw members succeed with static exhibits and in floriculture, livestock judging, and record books. Congratulations members, hard work pays off! Recent EventsDistrict Tractor Driving Members traveled to Jefferson County and competed in the District Tractor Driving Contest. Our team did very well . Congratulations to all our participants on a job well done. Upcoming EventsChapter Meetings Chapter meetings take place on the second Monday of each month (unless specified otherwise). It is crucial that members attend the October meeting to learn about new systems being put into use within our chapter; new requirements will have to be met in order to show at County Fair. In addition, we will also have a pumpkin carving contest in the ag room after school on October 8th. Come carve pumpkins, pick a contest winner, and eat pizza with us! District & State Soils Contests This year our chapters’ soil judging team will be heading to North Lake to compete in the District Soil Judging CDE on the 10th of October. Our team has high hopes of making it all the way to the State level, and competing in Union from the 14th of October until the 15th. Please wish them good luck as they prepare for this contest! Greenhand Conference Greenhand Conference is a day long trip on the 11th of November that first year members can go on if they wish to learn more about how to develop their leadership potential, meet new FFA members from around the district, and learn about how to get involved in the FFA. It isn’t mandatory, but is most definitely recommended & is super fun! State Veterinary Science Contest This year, the State Veterinary Science Contest will be held in Redmond on the 17th of November. If any members are looking for a fun & interesting CDE to participate in, Vet Science is a great one to try out! Things learned in this CDE are especially beneficial to those looking into pursuing a career in the animal science fields!
